After stevia and molasses, lo Maple syrup, amber liquid that is obtained from the plant of the same name, is one of the least caloric natural sweeteners; less than 250 calories per 100 grams of product. Not everyone is aware of the countless beneficial properties for the body, from restorative and energizing to purifying and draining ones. The Maple syrup it is also a rich source of antioxidants as recently communicated in the results of a research presented to the American Chemical Society. Being extracted from a plant, it is also an accepted ingredient in vegan recipes, where for example honey is not used because it is produced by bees.

According to the degree of refinement, it is divided into three types that differ in color and taste

  • Grade A: it is the most refined syrup with a delicate flavor and a light color
  • Grade B: darker color and more intense flavor
  • Grade C: it is the syrup with the darkest color and the most intense taste

On the market here in Italy there is usually grade A maple syrup with a more amber color and more aromatic taste than those of grade B and C.

According to experts, the consumption of this natural sweetener would counteract skin aging and rebalance the gastrointestinal system, especially in the case of constipation, colitis or gastritis. A natural method to counteract annoying ailments without having to resort to specific drugs with related side effects.
Its use is also recommended within the diet, as it would be able to drain excess fluids: people with a poorly functioning lymphatic system could therefore benefit from the consumption of this widespread syrup, also counteracting the imperfections of cellulite.

To make the slimming action of maple syrup effective it would be enough to add a tablespoon of the product to a glass of water, with a pinch of cinnamon and the juice of half a lemon. To drink every morning on an empty stomach.
The consumption of maple syrup is also particularly suitable for those who exercise: just take the product before playing sports, possibly diluted with water. The syrup is in fact a rapidly absorbed sugar and mineral salts supplement.

Maple syrup, contraindications
It is not recommended to take maple syrup for those suffering from diabetes due to the fair amount of sucrose it contains; alternatively, diabetics can opt for agave juice.
