Energy storage, understood as the ability to store self-produced energy, is the next challenge for photovoltaic systems. The market starts to propose smallphotovoltaic systemswhich incorporatebatteriesof accumulation - this is the case of Pyppi, the garden photovoltaic -, in addition some companies are timidly producing dedicated accumulation systems.

For now the problem seems to be linked to the high costs, in fact, the storage market is currently almost non-existent, due exclusively to the prices of batteries Too high. The obstacle is of a purely economic nature and the operators are waiting for nothing more than a decrease in the price of the accumulators to include them in the offer package of theirphotovoltaic systemsalsobatteries. Usually, stand-alone photovoltaic systems incorporate an energy storage system, but unfortunately it is almost always abatterynot very efficient.

Among the most promising proposals is that of the Panasonic that producesbatterieslong lifeguaranteed for 20 years. It is a system of lithium ion batteries with a photovoltaic systemwith a nominal capacity of 1.35 kWh; the device has a management system of the battery designed to control the charging and discharging of the accumulator according to the needs of the consumer. The user can control and monitor the domestic storage system even remotely. The product is known by the name ofEnergy Storage E3 DC.

If the proposal of the Panasonicit seems too "thin" to you, you should take a look at that of the Japanese company Koyocera which offers accumulators with a higher capacity, it is the very expensive Kyocera Solar system. The Japanese company offers batteries 7.2 kWh lithium-ion batteries combined with modules photovoltaic with a power of 4.03 kW.

Another solution is provided by the company SMA Solar Technology which offers a wall inverter forphotovoltaic systems which integrates a battery that guarantees a surplus of clean energy up to 50%. The line is called Sunny Boy Smart Energy and has one lithium polymer battery integrated. The 2 kWh energy accumulator is sufficient to erocate electricity for three continuous hours in order to satisfy the domestic needs of an entire family of four.

Even electric cars can become storage systems for photovoltaic systems: more information at this link.
